Q: What are the advantages of spray foam insulation?
A: Spray foam acts not only as an insulator, but also as an air/moisture barrier. Spray foam will not shrink, crack, mold, or mildew ... it will be there for the life of your building!
Q: Can I buy a 'Do-It-Yourself' spray foam kit?
A: For a total application it would be very costly with the kits available today. The insulation process requires certified contractors with special proportioning machines to install properly.
Q: How does spray foam hold up to bugs, insects, and rodents?
A: Spray foam insulation provides no nutritional value for bugs, insects, or rodents!
Q: Will spray foam add value to my investment?
A: Absolutely! In addition to the savings accrued from lower energy bills, spray foam raises the overall value to a property. The cost of installation may even be tax-deductible as a business expense. Check with your CPA to be sure.
Q: Should I use open or closed cell spray polyurethane foam?
A: Both open and closed cell foams are commonly used in most building applications, and the type is determined by customer needs concerning R-value, application area, and difficulty of application. For example, you would not typically use a open cell foam in any outdoor applications or below grade. Closed cell is need here, and also for tight spaces due to its R-value of 7 per inch.
Q: How is spray polyurethane density measured?
A: Density can be measured by weighing one solid cubic foot of foam. Open cell weighs between 0.4 to 0.5 lb./cu.ft. Closed cell weighs between 1.7 lb./cu.ft. The higher the density, the stronger the foam.
